Âşık Paşa

 Âşık Paşa (1272-1333)

• He was born in Kırşehir in 670 (1272). His real name is Ali, and his pen name is Âşık. The title "Paşa" added to his name indicates that he was the first son of his father.

• The information about his life is based on the accounts given in Menâkıbü'l-Kudsiyye fî menâsıbi'l-ünsiyye, written by his son Elvan Çelebi.

• According to this, his grandfather, Ebü'l-Beka Şeyh Baba İlyas b. Ali, came from Horasan to Anatolia and settled in Amasya in the 13th century.

Âşık Paşa: • He was a sheikh affiliated with Ebü'l-Vefâ Hârizmî's order, and his followers were called Babaîs. • Together with his disciple Baba İshak, he initiated the uprising known as the Baba Resul Rebellion in historical records. • According to Elvan Çelebi's Menâkıb, Baba İlyas was captured during this uprising and imprisoned in Amasya Castle. On the fortieth day of his imprisonment, the wall of his cell split, and a gray horse appeared, taking Baba İlyas and disappearing. • Other sources mention different accounts, stating that he died or was executed during the rebellion or on the battlefield.

Muhlis Paşa, Âşık Paşa's father: • He was the youngest son of Baba İlyas. According to Menâkıb, Muhlis Paşa, who was still an infant during the rebellion, was saved by a person named Şerefeddin from the burning village of Çat. At the age of seven, he was taken to Egypt and stayed there for seven years before returning to Anatolia. • After returning to Anatolia, Muhlis Paşa's life until 1273 is unknown. In that year, he captured Konya but relinquished his rule to the Karamanoğlu dynasty after a six-month reign. • This account is also mentioned by Taşköprizâde and Oruç Bey, as well as Şikârî. From all these sources, it can be inferred that Muhlis Paşa was alive during the reign of the first Ottoman Sultan, Osman Gazi.

Âşık Paşa: • He initially studied under Süleymân-ı Kırşehrî and later learned from Sheikh Osman, one of İlyas Paşa's disciples. • According to Muhlis Paşa's will, Sheikh Osman married Âşık Paşa to his daughter. • Afterward, he became the vizier of Anatolian Governor Timurtaş Paşa. Due to his involvement in certain political events, he went to Egypt. On his way back to Amasya, he fell ill in Kırşehir and passed away there.
