Haji Bektash Veli
Haji Bektash Veli (1209-1271) • Mystic, Sayyid, Sufi, scholar,
and Islamic philosopher. He is one of the intellectual and ideological pioneers
of Alevi-Bektashi belief. Those who follow his path are called Bektashis. • He
is the most active practitioner of the Yesevi Order in Anatolia, which was
founded by Hoca Ahmed Yesevi, a student of Yusuf Hamadani, one of the prominent
representatives of Horasan Melametism. • He made significant contributions to
the Islamization process of 13th-century Anatolia, and his name is included
among the personalities known as "Horasan Erenleri."
