• "Münkir" is an Arabic-origin word that means "denier" or "one who denies" while "münafık" is a term that describes a two-faced or hypocritical person.

Kazak Abdal

The life story of Kazak Abdal within the Bektaşi tradition is fascinating. This story is narrated as follows in Turgut Koca's book "Bektaşi Poets and Breath": The daughter of the Russian Tsar gives birth to a child, but this child does not suckle from her mother. Neither the doctors nor the priests can find a solution to this problem. Finally, they plead with Demir Baba, who has come from the Deliorman dervish lodge in Russia to collect salt money, saying, "You are a saint endowed with miracles. Please cure this child of its ailment." Demir Baba responds, "If I make this child able to suckle, will you make a vow for the tekke?" They agree. Demir Baba tells the child, "Suckle!" and the child starts breastfeeding. When the child reaches adolescence, they send him to the dervish lodge of Demir Baba, who eventually adopts the child. His name is Ahmed Kor. Later, this child goes to Balım Sultan, becomes his disciple, and his name becomes Kazak Abdal. This is how the legend ends.

Indeed, it is natural for Balım Sultan, who is considered the second spiritual leader of the Bektashi order, to be praised by the dervishes of the same order.

It is said that Kazak Abdal is from the Romanian Turks. There is also an imaginary painting of him. From one of his poems, it can be understood that his real name is Ahmet. He has a unique and realistic perspective. He is remembered and described with the belief that Ali is the manifestation of God, that he takes on a human form, and that he is the god in the form of a human.

Two of Kazak Abdal's poems, which criticize social institutions, established beliefs, and traditions, still maintain their value today. These poems mock a certain social order and extensively ridicule human beings within it. In addition to satire, these poems also contain humorous elements. They remind us of Azmi and Kaygusuz Abdal. Ali is also said to be the manifestation of God, appearing in the visible realm. He humanizes God.

Kazak Abdal, with his unique style, innovative approach, and a satirical perspective, has become a remarkable poet in our literature. His mockery and satire are reminiscent of Azmi, who lived in the 16th century. His poems have also been sung and performed by rural folk poets. No one has been as successful as him in this genre of poetry. He is deeply devoted to Hacı Bektaş Veli. With his timeless attitude, he is rooted in resistance and realism.
