Ümmî Sinan
Ümmî Sinan (d.? / d.1551):
• He is the founder of
the Sinaniyye branch of the Halvetiyye Sufi order. In other words, he is the
spiritual leader (pir) of this branch. His name is İbrahim. He was born in
Prizren. It has been seen in a certificate prepared in his name that he was
from Bursa. There are also rumors that he was from Karaman.
• Although he was a
great scholar, he adopted the nickname "Ümmî" (Illiterate) based on a
dream he had. He has hymns that address Sufi themes.
• A work called
"Risâle-i Şerife-i İstanbulî Ümmî Sinan" is available in the Muradiye
Library in Manisa.
Ümmî Sinan:
• Those who enter the
gathering of the saints are not deprived, • Those who come with confession will
not be left empty-handed. • Ümmî Sinan, the guide on the path; everything
becomes clear, • The path of dervishhood is not just a crown and cloak. • A
couplet hanging at the window of his tomb is as follows:
• The disciple is like a lover to the Kaaba of the Truth. • Enter with
respect, open your eyes, this is the tomb of Ümmî Sinan. • May Almighty Allah
make His secret sacred and blessed.
