Âşık Kerem

 Âşık Kerem

'Kerem and Aslı', the famous folk tale, is about the hero Âşık Kerem. He was truly a poet of the folk bards, a saz player, who composed love songs with a sensitive and simple language in accordance with the traditional structure of the minstrels.

After this event, Âşık Kerem takes his saz and sets out on the roads. It is said that Âşık Kerem traveled with his friend Sofu. Eventually, Kerem and Aslı meet in Aleppo. Aslı is forced to be given to Kerem by the coercion of the Governor of Aleppo. However, the monk, believing that religious separation should definitely prevent such a union, dresses Aslı in a magical garment. A garment with buttons that fasten by themselves. Due to this, Kerem cannot fulfill his desire on the wedding night. With the longing in his heart, he burns and turns to ashes from the fire of love. Aslı, whose hair catches fire from the flames coming out of Kerem, also dies after him.

Âşık Kerem is the pseudonym of Ahmet Mirza, the son of the Shah of Isfahan. Âşık Kerem (Ahmet Mirza) falls in love with Aslı, who is the daughter of an Armenian monk serving as a treasurer to the Shah. The monk opposes the marriage of Âşık Kerem and Aslı due to religious separation and they secretly run away with their families.
