Zileli Fedai
Zileli Fedai
There is not much information available about his life. Based on his own poems, it is understood that he spent his life as a wanderer, traveling to many provinces. He traveled to Istanbul for a while and frequented Kumkapı Sazlık Kahve, one of the ashik gathering places in Istanbul, where he had conversations and formed friendships with the ashiks of the time.
One day, when he visited Sazlık Kahve, someone asked about Zile'li Talibi (Talibi from Zile), and in response, he described the death of his master with the following lines and requested a Fatiha prayer for him:
"Dediler mevlidin olur nereden
Dedim ki aslımız olur Zile’den
Dediler Talibi n’oldu oradan
Dedim bir Fatiha Aziz İstanbul"
According to Fedaî, a person needs to join a spiritual path, receive guidance from a spiritual guide (pir), and attain enlightenment and maturity. With this belief, Fedaî embraced the Hurufi faith. After Istanbul, he went to Egypt and served for a while in the dergah (spiritual lodge) of Kaygusuz Abdal, whom he deeply respected, in Cairo.
In his poems, Fedaî extensively used Ottoman Turkish words, reflecting the linguistic characteristics of the era he lived in. He used both aruz meter and syllabic meter (hece) in his works. However, his successful works are primarily in the form of semai and koşma, which are genres of folk poetry.
Arzuhal eyledim şahlar şahına
Kıl derdime derman el’aman dedim
Özüm derman ettim ben dergâhına
Dahi birliğine yok güman dedim.
Kâmeti melektir siması huri
Uğruna koymuşum bu can ü seri
Bir ihsan eylersen tez eyle bari
Serde takat yoktur hal yaman dedim.
Beni mecnun etti mahmur bakışın
Ciğer kebap aşk od’una yakışın
Ruhum gelüp şu bedenden çıkışın
Şefaat kânısın Mustafa’m dedim
Kaşlar nizam kurmuş kirpik terazi
Nur ile boyanmış yüzünün benzi
Lebin şekerinden ver bazı bazı
Kulundur Fedaî ol zaman dedim.
