Âşık Vahdetî

 Âşık Vahdetî

The minstrel used the pen name Vahdetî and is known as Âşık Vahdetî among the people. Although it is known that Âşık Vahdetî is from Kırşehir, his exact birthplace is not known, but it is estimated that he was born and lived in Korkurlu village, which is connected to Kırşehir.

The minstrel had a long life and was recognized for his cheerful demeanor and long white beard. Vahdetî worked as a farmer and shepherd, and his uncle had a significant influence on his becoming a minstrel. There is also information that Vahdetî's father was a minstrel, and his pen name was also Vahdetî.

Âşık Vahdetî does not have an independent work. His poems are found in various anthologies and magazines. The minstrel, who used syllabic meter in his poems, composed his works mainly in the form of koşma. Âşık Vahdetî skillfully employed meter and rhyme to create harmony in his poetry, carefully selecting the words he used. He created poems with high literary quality, incorporating many words and clear Turkish expressions taken from the local dialect. His love for his homeland is openly felt in many of his poems, as can be seen in lines like "Gören âşık seni över / Lalelerin boynun eğer" (The witnessing minstrel praises you / Tulips bow to you). In addition to his love for the homeland, Âşık Vahdetî often addressed themes of love, exile, and defiance of fate in his poetry. The poems on the themes of rebellion against God and fate are undoubtedly rooted in the hardships the minstrel faced in life. It is known that despite his rebellion, he was a lover of God. Vahdetî also incorporated Sufi elements into his poems.
