Karacaoğlan

  Karacaoğlan • Karacaoğlan is a famous saz poet whose poems have been found in anthologies written in the 17th century. • He is one of the most important poets of the ashik tradition. There is no definitive information about his life, but it is understood that he was born in the Cukurova-Toros Mountains region in the 17th century and lived among the Turkmen tribes of the region. • His poems were written in the everyday spoken language and syllabic meter of Southeast Anatolia in the 17th century. He composed poems on nature, love, longing, and homeland; during his lifetime, he gained great fame in the Ottoman lands. His historical persona was quickly forgotten, and various legends emerged about him, similar to Köroğlu and Aşık Kerem. Usuli

  Usûlî (? - 1538/39) • Usûlî is a poet of Ottoman Divan literature and a mystic. He was born in Vardar Yenicesi and was affiliated with Sheikh İbrahim Gülşenî. • His works were admired and his name became known during his lifetime. Although he lived a poor life, it is known that he was proud and honorable and did not share his state with others. • The most prominent feature in his works is his mystical views. Additionally, his language is considered very refined for its time. He did not leave behind a large body of work. Öksüz Dede

  Öksüz Dede • It is believed that Öksüz Dede grew up in the Tuna regions and lived during the reign of Sultan Murad III. He was a Janissary poet who wrote poems about heroism. The period in which he lived is known through the kasidas he wrote when Iranian Prince Haydar Mirza was held hostage after the Ottoman-Iranian wars between 1557 and 1590. He was recruited into the Janissary corps as a devshirme. Muhyî

  Muhyî 1529-1547 • Muhyî is known as Muhyî al-Gülşenî due to his affiliation with the Gülşeniyye Sufi order. • At the age of eight or ten, he became an adopted child of a Naqshbandi sheikh. • He mentioned that he sent his poems to Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent through the Kapıağası Haydar Ağa, and due to his proficiency in Persian, the Ağa referred to him as "little Persian." Muhyî • He wrote Manâkıb-ı İbrâhim Gülşenî, a biography of İbrahim Gülşenî. • Muhyî claimed to have written 200 books, and forty of his works on Sufism, language, literature, history, hadith, exegesis, and ethics have survived to the present day. Aşık Garip

  Aşık Garip 16th century • It is claimed that he is from the Tebriz region, and he traveled to cities like Erzurum, Kars, Aleppo. • He wrote his works in simple Turkish and used successful verses in his works. His most important work is claimed to be Aşık Garip Hikayesi, which narrates his own life. • Aşık Garip's story bears great similarities with the story of "Kampüre's Son Bamsı Beyrek" from the Dede Korkut stories. Kul Mehmed

  Kul Mehmed • He lived in the 16th century and is often confused with Mehmed Pasha, the son of Uveys Pasha, who served as the Beylerbey of Budin and Egypt. • Mehmed Pasha, known by the pen name Kul Mehmed, was recognized not only as a statesman but also for his poetry in the style of saz poets. • Therefore, he was mistakenly identified with another poet named Mehmed, who lived in the 17th century and also used the pen name "Kul." Kul Mehmed • It can be deduced that he participated in the war in Crete alongside the army of Deli Hüseyin Pasha, who was appointed as the commander in 1646. • "My homeland is now Sivas" (Eren 1952: 41) • "Kul" is a nickname used by the Janissaries to express their loyalty to the sultan. Hatayî

  Hatayî (1487-1524) • He is one of the most frequently mentioned ulu poets in Alevi gatherings in Anatolia. His father, Şeyh Haydar, and his mother, Alemşah Halime Begüm Sultan, were the daughter of Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan. He lost the battle against Ottoman Sultan Yavuz Sultan Selim in Çaldıran on March 19, 1514. • When he arrived in Tabriz and wore the crown (1502), he avenged his father, captured Baku, and defeated Elvend Bey in Nakhchivan. From then on, Shah Ismail's life revolves around spreading Shiism and waging wars to expand the borders of the Safavid state. When the state's borders expanded and Shiism rapidly spread towards Anatolia, conflicts arose with the Ottomans.   Seyyid Nizamoğlu (d. 1601) • Since his father, Şeyh Kasım, established a tekke in Istanbul as the deputy of Zülfikar Mâzenderânî, Seyyid Nizamoğlu must have received his initial religious and Sufi education from his father. • He was sent to İbrâhim Ümmî Sinan, the founder of the Sinâniyye branch of the Halvetiyye order. After completing his spiritual journey (seyrüsülûk), his sheikh adorned him with the Nizâmî crown to commemorate his father, Seyyid Nizam. • He then began his guidance activities at the Emîrler Tekkesi, which was built for him within the Silivrikapı area. Üftade

  Üftade (1495-1580) • He was born in the Araplar neighborhood of Bursa. • His name was Mehmed, and his nickname was Muhyiddin. He is known by the pen name "Üftâde" in his poetry. It is recorded that his father came from Manyas and settled in Bursa. • Üftâde began his education under the guidance of Muk'ad Hızır Dede, one of the Bayrami sheikhs, at a young age. He served him for about eight years until the sheikh's death in 918 (1512). • He recited the call to prayer (ezan) with his beautiful voice at the Bursa Grand Mosque and the Doğan Bey Mosque. However, he stopped reciting the call to prayer the day after he was warned in a dream, "You have fallen from your station" because he accepted a small salary.   Muhyiddin Abdal • He is a Turkic alphabet poet mentioned in 16th-century sources. He talks about mystics like Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, Otman Baba, and Balım Sultan. It is said that he lived in Çöke, between Edirne and Kırklareli. • His "Muhyiddin Baba Türbesi Mezarı" (Muhyiddin Baba's Tomb and Grave) is located there. According to Prof. Dr. Şükrü Elçin, Muhyiddin Abdal's date of death is 1529. He is considered one of the great figures of the Bektashi Order. He compiled his poems written in syllabic meter and Hurufi style in a small divan (collection of poems). Kaygusuz Alaeddin

  Kaygusuz Alaeddin (d. 1563) • He was the disciple of Ahmed-i Sarban. It is known that during his period as a teacher of children (sıbyan hocalığı), he was accepted as a Kutb (a spiritual pole) by some Melamis. Gazanfer Dede became the successor after him. • Vizeli Alaeddin Kaygusuz is mentioned as one of the founders of Melami Hamzavi literature. Ümmî Sinan

  Ümmî Sinan (d.? / d.1551): • He is the founder of the Sinaniyye branch of the Halvetiyye Sufi order. In other words, he is the spiritual leader (pir) of this branch. His name is İbrahim. He was born in Prizren. It has been seen in a certificate prepared in his name that he was from Bursa. There are also rumors that he was from Karaman. • Although he was a great scholar, he adopted the nickname "Ümmî" (Illiterate) based on a dream he had. He has hymns that address Sufi themes. • A work called "Risâle-i Şerife-i İstanbulî Ümmî Sinan" is available in the Muradiye Library in Manisa.   Bahşî: • There is not much information available about Bahşî's life in sources. • He was a military poet who participated in Yavuz Sultan Selim's Egyptian Campaign (1517). • His poetry reflects the antiquity of the lover (Köprülü 2004: 57). • Among the Turkic people of Turkestan (Kazakhstan, Uyghur, Afghanistan), the word Bahşî also means "monk, scribe, physician, poet." • The unknowns regarding Bahşî's birth date also apply to his death date and place.
